Recognizance

      1. A legislated form used by the court that sets out the terms under which a person will be released on bail or on a peace bond and when he or she is expected to return to appear before the court.
       2. In family law cases, an acknowledgment entered into before a judge, justice of the peace or clerk when a bond is posted that money is owed if certain conditions are not met.
